Peter Lanyon (1918-1964) TREVALGAN signed and dated 51 oil on board 122 by 114cm.; 48 by 45in. Executed in 1951. £200,000-300,000 |
For inspiration Lanyon continuously turned to his native Cornish landscape that he passionately explored, first on foot, then from below through mine-shafts, and then from above in a glider. Later influenced by the New York School of Abstract Expressionism, Lanyon’s personal form of abstraction depicts here the area of outstanding natural beauty found in Trevalgan just two miles from his home town of St. Ives.
