Liu Ye’s painting is cheerful in their imagery and colors. Beneath its childlike, almost cartoon-like simplicity, the works look critically at serious issues of globalization, economic crisis, and a sense of innocence lost in the Cultural Revolution period The artwork is also influenced by the propagandistic art of the Cultural Revolution and illustrations for children’s books by his father in the artist's childhood.
