此冊十二開,設色古茂,運筆奇偉,別具一格。所 繪景色各有不同,每圖皆有題畫詩一句,詩畫一 體,作於康熙丁亥(1707)年七月,是年秋冬之際 石濤示寂於揚州。

此冊為石濤晚年之作,從筆法來看,石濤晚年對表現自然山水與內心交融的參悟,即 神遇而跡化 了一個高峰。在其酣暢淋漓的筆墨中體現出「至人無法,無法而法,乃為至法」的畫理境界。此冊有華世芳、吳湖帆 和唐雲的題跋,可知在清末由華世芳所藏,後歸於吳湖帆「梅景書屋」。吳湖帆在冊中有三題,讚之:「石濤神化之 筆,湖帆銘心之品!」

Painted when Wang was 72 years old, Landscape after Huang Gongwang is modelled on an original by Huang, the oldest of the legendary 'Four Masters of the Yuan Dynasty'.  Once owned by revered Qing Dynasty collector and connoisseur Liu Shu (1759 1816), the painting honors the great master's stylistic approach while demonstrating Wang's own individual perspective.

A work from Shitao's late period produced shortly before his passing, this vibrant album of twelve leaves from the Wu Hufan Collection is of impeccable provenance. Each leaf reveals a unique scene and comes with a dedicated colophon. Shutter employed bold hues and strategic use of link, evoking strength and movement in this piece, one of the final great works of his lifetime.

Pablo Picasso’s Le Peintre et son modèle

Painted in 1963 and measuring more than five feet across, the painting exemplifies the dynamic force of the artist’s late work on a magnificent scale. Here Picasso depicts the powerful relationship between artist and model, one of the greatest recurring motifs of his late career. In this striking example, the male figure – a recognizable amalgamation of self-portraits – paints a female nude reminiscent of the female subjects of Rubens and Ingres. Le Peintre et son modèle is entirely fresh to the market, having descended through the Oestreich family since it was acquired in 1968 from Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris.  The work will be presented at the upcoming Sotheby's Evening Sale of Impressionist & Modern Art in New York.

Girls on the Bridge, Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch, Girls on the Bridge 

Munch painted Girls on the Bridge in 1902, during an emotionally-turbulent yet highly-productive period of his life. The lyrical work ranks as one of the most powerful paintings of his career. Girls on the Bridge will come to Sotheby's New York auction on 14 November with an estimate in excess of US$50 million.

The rich symbolism of Girls on the Bridge relates to Munch’s Frieze of Life, which takes the stages of a young woman's development from puberty to maturity as one of its themes. Girls on the Bridge continues Munch's exploration of the themes of both sexual awakening and mortality. The image of a cluster of young women, huddled in a secretive mass between two points of land, resonates with explosive tension.
